Support for young carers in The Hague

A forgotten group of young people is supported by the Project ‘Young carers’ in The Hague. Gz psychologist Philip Veerman talks to one of these young people in ‘Den Haag Centraal’ and describes why more attention for this group is important.

Andjenie says that she is happy that there is finally more attention for young people like her. “I would like other young carers not to have to go through what I went through and be sent from pillar to post. I didn’t choose to be a young carer. As a child I was told that my father had only six months to live, but in the end I took care of him for twelve years. Plugging in his oxygen machine, taking him to doctor’s appointments. Still, I was afraid that if I wasn’t there he would die.”
